Understand why so many users are no longer buying iPhone

Lower fidelity and longer handset use are some of the reasons. Apple launched the iPhone in 2007 and has become synonymous with a touchscreen smartphone. In four years, the company had sold about 73.4 million units. Between 2007 and 2018, 18 new models were launched, a factor that helped to spread the brand worldwide. But recently Cupertino's company has seen sales of one of its core products retract and negatively impact quarterly results.

IPhones sales in the first quarter of 2019 declined 17% from the same period last year, the largest reduction ever. The negative result also impacted the company's quarterly profit, down 16% from 2018. The retraction was also extended to the second quarter of 2019 - according to The New York Times, there was a 12% reduction in iPhone sales in this period. But what causes users to give up buying the apple phone ?
Understand why so many users are no longer buying iPhone
There are several factors related to the fall in the number of iPhones sales in the world. A BankMyCell survey of a data set of over 38,000 individuals showed that brand loyalty reached its lowest level in 2019. In 2017, 92% of users intended to continue with the iPhone in the future. In the first quarter of 2019, that number dropped to 73%, the lowest since 2011.

According to the study, 24.5% of owners migrated to Apple's main competitors using the Android operating system. Of these, 13.8% bought Samsung phones, 8.2% opted for LG models and 2.5% bought Motorola models.

Another challenge Apple faces is getting users to change their old smartphones. Although new features are featured in recent models, statistics show that iPhone owners still prefer to keep the same device for a long time. According to the company's own data, half of the phones sold are in use, which also contributed to a 5% drop in revenue in its big holiday quarter, according to CEO Tim Cook.

If internal loyalty issues and longer usage of the same smartphone weren't enough, Apple also faces stiff competition from other manufacturers, and is in the midst of a trade war between the United States and China. According to the reports from Strategy Analytics and Counterpoint Research consulting firms regarding the sale of smartphones in the second quarter of 2019, all four major manufacturers improved their market share compared to 2018, except Apple.

According to data provided by the consulting firms, Cupertino's company shipped between 36.4 and 38 million cell phones from April to June, while the company's official data indicates that in the same period of 2018 this number was 41.3. million units. Who has the largest market share is Samsung, with 22.3% market share, followed by Huawei, with 17.2%.

Chinese manufacturers have an aggressive marketing strategy, with intermediate phones with advanced configurations at almost cost price. This strategy alone has led Huawei and others to consolidate in the Chinese domestic market and neutralize the participation of rivals such as Samsung and Apple. In the case of the US company, it sought to offer discounts of up to $ 50 in China through dealers. It worked: in just under a month sales jumped by up to 83%. Samsung has invested in the creation of intermediate models with more advanced features, ending the Galaxy J line.
