Amazfit GTS: new smartwatch in the design of the Apple Watch for 115 euros

With the Xiaomi Mi Band 4 there is a very reasonably priced fitness tracker, manufactured by Huami. The company is an important investor and supplier to Xiaomi, but also develops its own models, achieving a whopping 17% market share worldwide. At an event in China, Huami has now introduced three new Amazfit smartwatches: the Amazfit GTS, the Amazfit Smart Sports Watch 3 and the Amazfit X Concept Watch. Especially the first model can cause a stir, we reveal why!

Amazfit GTS

The smartwatch features a 1.65" AMOLED display with a resolution of 348x442 pixels . Thus, the Amazfit GTS reaches a pixel density of 341 ppi, in addition, the display can cover the NTSC color space to 100% .

The design is reminiscent of an Apple Watch - rectangular shape with rounded corners and edges . Also the own operating system has seemingly inspired to Apple watchOS. The chassis is made of aluminum and is protected on top by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 . The smartwatch is also waterproof to 5 ATM and can therefore be worn while swimming, diving is not recommended.

Inside sits a 220 mAh LiPo battery , which should last for about 14 days , depending on the mode . The smartwatch is charged in about 2 hours with a magnetic adapter. The watch is 9.4 mm thick and weighs about 25 g. Also on board are NFC for mobile payments as well as GPS + GLONASS, a motion sensor and a heart rate monitor. The latter is referred to as "BioTracker PPG" and should even allow a 24-hour pulse measurement.

The Amazfit GTS is connected via Bluetooth 5.0 (LE), both Android smartphones and iOS devices seem to be supported. Unfortunately, the smartwatch is only available in China, where it costs CNY 899 - that's about 115 euros .

Amazfit X Concept Watch

The new Amazfit X - a concept smartwatch - is a bit more exciting, but still a dream of the future . It has a curved AMOLED display that flexes around the arm. According to Huami, it bends 92° around the case , which is apparently made possible by a special heating process.

The display is about 2.1 inches tall and has a pixel density of 326 ppi . It should cover the NTSC color space to 100% and reach a brightness of 430 nits . Inside sits a 220 mAh battery, which is also bent and should provide for a period of 7 days . The case is made of metal , unfortunately there are no other details. A market maturity is next year so far, Huami speaks of a launch in the first half of the year 2020.

Amazfit Smart Sports Watch 3

Although not quite as spectacular, but still exciting is the new Amazfit Smart Sports Watch 3. It has a round 1.34" display, which dissolves with 320x320 pixels . The chassis is made of a mix of metal and glass fiber reinforced polycarbonate , on the top comes Corning Gorilla Glass 3 used. The "Elite Edition" gets even "AF + AR-coated sapphire" installed over the display, in addition there is a bezel and buttons made of titanium .

The focus is especially on sports activities, which is why NFC, GPS (+ GLONASS, Beidou and Galileo) and a BioTracker PPG heart rate monitor are also on board. In addition, it is waterproof to 5 ATM, so survives also swimming and showering.

The battery provides 300 mAh and is charged with a magnetic adapter in about 2 hours. The duration is about 7 days , when the full power is used. If some functions are restricted, the runtime can be extended to 14 days.

The standard version of the Amazfit Smart Sports Watch 3 is CNY 1.299, the equivalent of about 165 euros . The "Elite Edition" costs CNY 1,699, that is about 215 Euro. Like the Amazfit GTS, this model is only available in China for the time being.
